The invention relates to a striker assembly for a vehicle closure panel. The striker assembly includes a striker plate and a striker. The striker plate has opposite sides and at least one opening. The body of the striker pin penetrates through at least one second opening and extends outwards from the opposite side portions to a first end portion area and a second end portion area which are opposite, and the second end portion area is configured to be connected with a ratchet latch of the latch assembly in a locking mode. During a normal use condition, the body is releasably secured in a first position relative to the striker plate, causing a normal use force to be exerted on the striker. The body is intentionally deformable in an abnormal condition causing an abnormal excessive force to be applied to the striker, thereby allowing the striker to automatically move from a first position to a second position relative to the striker plate, thereby allowing the vehicle closure panel to move outwardly relative to an adjacent body structure.
