The invention relates to the technical field of road construction detection, in particular to a pavement thickness detection device and method, and the device comprises a cart which is used for installing and moving the detection device. The frame is arranged at the right end of the trolley; the upper end of the feeding assembly is rotatably mounted in the frame, and the lower end of the feeding assembly is rotatably inserted in the cart; and the core drilling assembly is fixedly installed at the lower end of the feeding assembly, and the lower end of the core drilling assembly is movably inserted into the cart. The feeding assembly drives the core drilling assembly to drill a road surface, after the road surface is drilled, a drilling barrel and a drill bit on the core drilling assembly are separated, a clamping assembly in the drill bit clamps a core sample, then the core sample and the drill bit are taken down from the drilling barrel, and then the core sample can be detected at the rear end; and the core sample can be taken out without knocking a drill cylinder after drilling a hole in a road surface, so that the damage to the core sample is avoided.
