The invention relates to and discloses an ecological ditch and a construction method thereof.The ecological ditch comprises a ditch body with a water flow channel, a first planting groove and a second planting groove are formed in the water flow channel, the first planting groove and the second planting groove are distributed in a stepped mode, the tops of the first planting groove and the second planting groove are open, and aquatic plants are planted in the first planting groove and the second planting groove; a plurality of baffles are arranged in the water flow channel at intervals, one side edge of each baffle is provided with a passageway for water to pass through, and each baffle is provided with an adjusting part. Aquatic plants are planted in the ditch body, pollutants can be absorbed in a layered mode, and the purification effect is improved while water is purified; the baffle can be used for blocking part of water flow in the water flow channel, so that the flow speed of the water flow is greatly reduced under the blocking of the baffle, and more pollutants in water can be removed by the aquatic plants when the contact between the water and the aquatic plants is improved; the water purification capacity can be greatly improved, so that water resources and the environment are protected.
