The invention discloses a low-cost carbon-ceramic brake material and a preparation method thereof.The preparation method comprises the steps that carbon fibers are sheared to obtain chopped fibers, the chopped fibers, calcined petroleum coke, phenolic resin, hexamethylenetetramine, nano zirconium silicate powder and vermiculite powder are mixed to obtain a mixture, the mixture is subjected to compression molding to obtain a green body, the green body is carbonized to obtain a carbonized green body, and the carbonized green body is dried to obtain the low-cost carbon-ceramic brake material. The preparation method comprises the following steps: preparing a carbonized green body, carrying out reaction siliconizing on the carbonized green body to obtain a carbon ceramic green body, carrying out silicon impurity removal treatment on the carbon ceramic green body, and finally polishing to obtain the carbon ceramic brake material. The preparation period is short and the cost is low. The prepared carbon-ceramic brake material is stable in friction coefficient, the wear rate is smaller than 0.65 [mu] m/face per time, the brake process is stable, vibration is small, and howling is avoided.
