The invention discloses a steel rail grinding device and a turnout passing method.The steel rail grinding device comprises a mounting frame, at least two grinding units and a locking mechanism, the locking mechanism is connected between the adjacent grinding units and used for enabling the adjacent grinding units to relatively move in the transverse direction, and each grinding unit comprises a supporting frame; the base is movably connected to the mounting frame in the vertical direction; the transverse moving mechanism is movably connected to the supporting frame in the transverse direction; the grinding mechanism is rotatably arranged on the transverse moving mechanism, and the grinding mechanism is arranged below the supporting frame; and the positioning mechanism is used for moving the grinding mechanism to the grinding position of the steel rail, the positioning mechanism is arranged on the transverse moving mechanism, and the positioning mechanism is arranged close to the side portion of the grinding mechanism. The rail grinding device can safely pass through harmful space of the turnout, it is guaranteed that the rail grinding device is always attached to the turnout rail for grinding, the conditions of operation limitation and existence of grinding blind areas are avoided, and therefore the grinding precision and grinding quality of the turnout rail are improved.
