The invention relates to a tamping machine (1) for tamping a ballast bed of a track, comprising a tamping device (4) for tamping the track, a lifting and straightening device (2) for lifting and straightening the track and a turnout, at least one height-adjustable lifting roller (6) and at least one lifting hook (7), the height of which can be adjusted independently relative to the lifting roller, the lifting straightening device is arranged between the undercarriages (8) and preferably in the working direction in front of the tamping machine (4), the lifting rollers (6) and the lifting hooks (7) being arranged on a common carrier (31) which is guided in a displaceable manner transversely to the longitudinal axis (L) of the tamping machine by means of an adjustment drive (17). In order to achieve an advantageous operating state, it is proposed that the carriage (31) is mounted on a guide carriage (10) by means of which the carriage can be moved transversely to the tamping machine longitudinal axis (L) along a transverse guide (16), and that the carriage (31) is mounted on the guide carriage (10) by means of a pivot drive (12) so as to be pivotably adjustable about a pivot axis (30) parallel to the tamping machine longitudinal axis.
