The invention discloses a bridge widening structure and a construction method, and relates to the technical field of bridge construction. The bridge widening structure comprises an old bridge; the new bridge pile foundation is poured on one side of the old bridge; the new bridge pier column is poured on the new bridge pile foundation; the temporary hoop is mounted between the new bridge pier column and the old bridge; the new bridge deck is poured on the new bridge pier columns, and the new bridge deck and the old bridge are arranged at intervals; the number of the first straining beams is multiple, the multiple first straining beams are installed on the new bridge pile foundation and the new bridge pier column correspondingly, and the multiple first straining beams are arranged at intervals; the second straining beams are arranged in one-to-one correspondence with the first straining beams; the post-cast sections are arranged between the bridge surface of the new bridge and the old bridge as well as between the first straining beam and the corresponding second straining beam, so that most shrinkage creep and settlement of the new bridge occur in the standing period through the cooperation of the temporary hoops, the first straining beam, the second straining beam and the post-cast sections; therefore, the probability of cracks near the junction surface of the new bridge and the old bridge is reduced.
