The invention discloses a temporary supporting device and method for a bridge. The supporting device comprises at least one rolling mechanism. The rolling mechanism comprises a lower seat plate used for being connected with a pier and an upper seat plate located above the lower seat plate, a ball groove is formed in the bottom face of the upper seat plate, balls are arranged in the ball groove and connected with the top face of the lower seat plate, and an elastic piece is arranged between the lower seat plate and the upper seat plate so that the upper seat plate can be located in the center above the lower seat plate when not stressed. The steel support is detachably arranged on the upper seat plate; the base plate device is detachably connected to the steel support, and a jack is further arranged in the base plate device. According to the invention, the large-tonnage beam body can be supported, and the normal operation of the bridge is ensured; the upper seat plate can move relative to the lower seat plate due to the arrangement of the flexible part, so that the translation displacement of the beam body can be well adapted.
