Comprising the following steps: dividing a soil layer above the grotto into a first planting area and a second planting area from bottom to top; according to the topographic features of the grotto, the hydrological characteristics of the first planting area and the second planting area and the hydrological characteristics of the forest, planting plants of which the crown breadth interception degree is greater than a set value in the first planting area, and planting plants of which the litter coverage degree is greater than a set value in the second planting area; wherein the canopy density of the plants planted in the first planting area is larger than 0.95. According to the grotto cultural relic protection method provided by the invention, the soil runoff is reduced through the plants planted in the first planting area so as to reduce the scouring of the runoff on the grotto surface, and the soil infiltration water is reduced through the plants planted in the second planting area so as to reduce the influence of rainwater on the grotto cultural relics. The damage to the grotto cultural relics can be reduced on the premise of guaranteeing grotto environment improvement and optimization and landscaping.
