The invention provides a preparation method of a composite rare earth oxide modified inert coating, which comprises the following steps: mixing polyvinyl alcohol, a solvent, Yb2O3 and CeO2 to obtain rare earth ceramic slurry; coating a ceramic matrix with the rare earth ceramic slurry to obtain a coating; and the coating is sequentially subjected to degumming and roasting, and the composite rare earth oxide modified inert coating is obtained. The Yb2O3 has relatively high melting point and chemical stability, has excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability, and can improve the chemical compatibility with a melt; ceO2 belongs to a cubic system, is used as a sintering aid, is easy to form an eutectic liquid phase with the ceramic material, and is beneficial to realizing low-temperature densification, the coating is not easy to fall off, and the defects of mechanical burnt-on sand, inclusion and the like can be eliminated.
