The invention discloses a preparation method of a composite flame retardant for a fireproof thermal-insulation decorative board, which comprises the following steps: S1, selecting zinc oxide, borax decahydrate, zinc nitrate hexahydrate and water as raw materials; s2, the mass ratio of borax decahydrate to zinc nitrate hexahydrate is 0.8-1.1, and the mass ratio of borax decahydrate to zinc oxide is 6-8; s3, adding zinc nitrate hexahydrate into water at the temperature of 60-70 DEG C and the stirring speed of 450-550r/min to form a zinc nitrate solution; s4, adding zinc oxide into the zinc nitrate solution; s5, adding borax decahydrate into the zinc nitrate solution; s6, reacting for 6-8 hours under a sealing condition; s7, after the reaction is finished, cooling to room temperature; s8, filtering is carried out; and S9, drying at the temperature of 110-120 DEG C for 3-5 hours to obtain the zinc borate flame retardant.
