The invention discloses a construction method for butt joint installation of large-diameter steel pipe columns, which comprises the following steps of: quickly keeping the central axis of a positioning tool consistent with the central axis of the large-diameter steel pipe columns through a plurality of horizontal range finders uniformly arranged on the positioning tool, and adjusting a positioning nut sleeved on a positioning bolt in a matched manner so that the levelness of the positioning tool can meet the requirement; preliminary positioning of the positioning nut relative to the lower-end steel pipe column is achieved, the initial butt joint precision of the upper-end steel pipe column is ensured, and the butt joint efficiency is improved. The positioning adjusting plate is arranged between the brackets of the upper and lower steel pipe columns, and the central axis and levelness of the steel pipe columns at the upper end after initial butt joint are finely adjusted through the horizontal adjusting bolt and the vertical adjusting bolt, so that the final butt joint precision can be ensured, and the construction quality is guaranteed; the positioning bolts, the positioning nuts and the fastening nuts are matched with the lower-end brackets and the upper-end brackets of the steel pipe columns, the upper-end steel pipe columns and the lower-end steel pipe columns which are finely adjusted are fixed, the spliced steel pipe columns are stably connected, and follow-up welding work is facilitated.
