The water reducer is prepared from the following components in parts by weight: 320 to 400 parts of unsaturated polyether macromonomer, 10 to 20 parts of unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, 40 to 80 parts of polyalkenyl lactone, 0.5 to 3 parts of three-way catalyst, 0.8 to 3 parts of chain transfer agent, 1.5 to 3 parts of oxidant, 0.5 to 2 parts of reducing agent and 350 to 700 parts of deionized water. The invention also provides a preparation method of the water reducing agent. The problems that in the prior art, the concrete fluidity retention time of a polycarboxylate superplasticizer is insufficient, and the working performance of concrete is greatly reduced by mud-containing gravel are effectively solved.
