An improved ceramic material for thermal insulation is obtained by selecting specific stabilizers and adjusted proportions: 0.2% to 8.0% by weight of zirconium oxide, the basic stabilizers: ytterbium oxide (Yb2O3), hafnium oxide (HfO2), cerium oxide (CeO2), calcium oxide (CaO) and/or magnesium oxide (MgO), at least yttrium oxide (Y2O3), hafnium oxide (HfO2), cerium oxide (CeO2), calcium oxide (CaO) and/or magnesium oxide (MgO) being used, and optionally at least one additional stabilizer: 0.2% to 20% by weight of erbium oxide (Er2O3) and/or ytterbium oxide (Yb2O3).
