The invention discloses a lock and an operation method thereof, and the lock comprises an unlocking assembly, an electrical unlocking and locking module, a mechanical unlocking and locking module and a locking module; wherein the electrical unlocking and locking module is in transmission connection with the unlocking assembly so as to drive the unlocking assembly to rotate for unlocking or locking when receiving an unlocking signal or a locking signal; the mechanical unlocking and locking module is in transmission connection with the unlocking assembly so as to drive the unlocking assembly to rotate for unlocking or locking under the rotation of the mechanical key; the locking module is used for limiting the mechanical unlocking and locking module when receiving a locking signal so that the mechanical unlocking and locking module can not conduct unlocking operation, or releasing limiting of the mechanical unlocking and locking module when receiving a releasing signal so that the mechanical unlocking and locking module can conduct unlocking operation. According to the arrangement, the mechanical unlocking and locking module is limited through the locking module, limiting of the mechanical unlocking and locking module can be relieved only when the locking module receives the relieving signal, and therefore the safety performance of the lock is improved.
