The present invention generally relates to cement-based materials that are precursors to magnesia oxychloride cement (MOC) and comprise treated carbon fibers comprising a dispersant that at least partially coats the carbon fibers, and methods of making the same. The invention also relates to a cementitious material as a magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) precursor and comprising a silicon alkoxide, and to a process for the preparation thereof. The invention also relates to cementitious materials (e.g., pourable, extrudable, moldable, and formable cementitious materials) and cementitious building materials (e.g., panels, structural laminates, etc.) formed by curing the cementitious materials.
