The invention relates to a tamping unit (4) for tamping tracks (3), comprising tamping tools (12) which are arranged in pairs and can be adjusted relative to one another by means of respective adjusting cylinders (16), an adjusting piston (17) which can be hydraulically loaded by means of a first hydraulic circuit (23) being arranged in the respective adjusting cylinder (16), and each adjusting cylinder (16) being provided with an oscillating piston (30) which can be hydraulically loaded by means of a second hydraulic circuit (23). The oscillating piston (30) is arranged in a pressure booster (27) having a primary cylinder (28) and a secondary cylinder (29) in order to superimpose vibrations on the adjusting movement (24). In this way, vibrations can be generated with a lower pressure level.
