The invention relates to the technical field of energy dissipation and shock absorption of engineering structures, in particular to a damping device and a pretension adjusting method.The damping device comprises a bearing mechanism which comprises an upper cover plate and a lower cover plate with the same size specification as the upper cover plate; the movable mechanism comprises a fixed plate arranged between the upper cover plate and the lower cover plate, and a friction plate also arranged between the upper cover plate and the lower cover plate; the fastening mechanism comprises a plurality of fastening bolts arranged on the upper cover plate and a plurality of nuts matched with the fastening bolts; according to the invention, different SMA wire bundle quantity ratios can be matched by controlling the pretightening force of the bolts and the sliding resistance, so that the maximum energy-dissipating capacity can be fully exerted on the basis of ensuring that the structural system has the self-resetting capacity, the sliding resistance can be adjusted, a hysteretic curve is not rectangular any more, and the self-resetting force of the structural system can be adjusted. The rigidity of the structure is effectively improved, and the single energy consumption form is avoided.
