The variable sliding type manhole safety protection device comprises a supporting part which extends by a specified length in the vertical direction and forms a track structure used for changing the vertical position of a moving guide piece; a movement guide which is attached to the rail structure so that the vertical position thereof can be changed, extends by a predetermined height in the vertical direction, and is attached to the safety fence in an integrated structure; the safety fence is formed by a plurality of frames so as to form a cylindrical structure with the outer diameter corresponding to the inner diameter of the manhole inlet, and one side face of the upper portion of the safety fence is provided with an opening and closing type inlet door; a safety fence position fixing part, the lower end of which is provided with a stopper, and the stopper fixes the vertical height of the moving guide through the rotation action of the stopper rod; and a ladder which is provided on the inner side wall of the manhole so as to be adjacent to the installation support part, and which has a structure extending from the manhole inlet to the inside of the manhole by a predetermined length.
