The invention discloses a method for preparing calcium oxide by utilizing limestone, which comprises the following steps: S1, selecting small-particle limestone, mixing with calcium nitrate, heating and calcining in a muffle furnace, and heating and decomposing the calcium nitrate for preparing new calcium nitrate; s2, raising the temperature to 800 DEG C again, continuously calcining until the small-particle limestone is completely converted into calcium oxide, stopping calcining, and taking out the product calcium oxide when the temperature is reduced to room temperature; the steps S3, S4 and S5 are carried out after the step S2 and are used for preparing calcium nitrate; s3, calcining and decomposing the calcium nitrate in the step S1 to obtain calcium oxide and nitric oxide gas, and absorbing the escaped nitric oxide gas with water to prepare a nitric acid solution; s4, soaking small-particle limestone with the nitric acid solution in the step S3 to obtain calcium nitrate; and S5, mixing the calcium nitrate in the step S4 with the small-particle limestone for a new round of preparation of calcium oxide.
