A diamond-containing adhesive for joining reaction-bonded silicon carbide parts. The epoxy-based adhesive comprises an epoxy material and a solid component, wherein the solid component comprises diamond powder and silicon carbide particles. The adhesive material may be used to form reactive bonded silicon carbide that bonds reactive bonded silicon carbide parts together. The present disclosure also relates to a method of assembling a product from a preform, the method comprising positioning an adhesive layer comprising diamond powder between opposing preform surfaces, carbonizing the layer, and infiltrating molten silicon in the preform and the carbonized layer, the carbonized layer is deposited on the preform to convert the preform into a corresponding reactive bonded silicon carbide component and to convert the carbonized layer into a reactive bonded silicon carbide bonded region having a reduced amount of residual silicon. Also disclosed is an assembled product comprising at least two reactive bonded silicon carbide components bonded together by treating a diamond-containing adhesive.
