The invention belongs to the technical field of compressed air energy storage, and provides a method for building an underground gas storage by backfilling an open pit and the underground gas storage.The method comprises the steps that deep digging is conducted at the bottom of the open pit till part of bed rock is excavated, and the underground gas storage is built on the bed rock; a vertical shaft is built, the bottom of the vertical shaft communicates with the underground gas storage, a plurality of gas conveying pipelines communicating with the interior of the underground gas storage are laid in the vertical shaft, and meanwhile artificial surrounding rock is built at the bottom of the mine pit to wrap the underground gas storage and the bottom of the vertical shaft; and the stripping waste slag close to the mine to be mined is backfilled into the open-air waste mine pit to form a backfilling area, the top of the vertical shaft is exposed out of the top of the backfilling area, and a plurality of gas pipelines in the vertical shaft are connected with a compressor and an expansion machine on the earth surface. The problems that a traditional gas storage chamber is high in construction cost and difficulty can be solved, and the problems of consumption, ground disaster prevention and treatment and ecological restoration of the adjacent stripping mining slag can be solved.
