The invention relates to the field of brake calipers, in particular to a locking mechanism for an actuator assembly and a detection method for effectiveness of the locking mechanism. The meshing gear is connected with a second motor; the second motor is connected with the meshing gear through a worm and gear. According to the detection method, the relative position of a meshing gear and a transmission gear is judged by detecting the rotation angle of the meshing gear; after meshing of the meshing gear and the transmission gear is completed, whether meshing of the locking mechanism is reliable meshing or not is judged according to current changes in the second motor; the invention discloses a locking mechanism for an actuator assembly and a method for detecting the effectiveness of the locking mechanism. The method comprises the following steps: detecting the position of a sector gear and identifying a current signal of a second motor through an electric control mechanism; whether the sector gear is in a normal meshing state with the transmission gear or not can be obtained, and control over reliable meshing between the sector gear and the transmission gear is achieved.
