There is provided a door locking device for a door of a household appliance, the device comprising: a housing; the coupling component is provided with a first end part and a second end part, and the coupling component is pivotally mounted in the shell at a fulcrum; an actuator operably coupled to the first end of the coupling member and adapted to controllably move the coupling member about the fulcrum between a first position and a second position; a locking pin operably coupled to the second end of the coupling member and configured to slidably move between an unlocked position and a locked position, the locking pin being in the unlocked position when the coupling member is in the first position and the locking pin being in the locked position when the coupling member is in the second position; wherein the fulcrum is located between the first end and the second end so as to provide a mechanical lever advantage by a force applied to the first end by the actuator and to the locking pin by the second end.
