Systems and methods for detecting obstacles include detecting, by a sensor, a first parameter corresponding to a traverse path of a cargo bed cover; determining the presence of an obstacle in the crossing path of the cargo compartment cover based on a comparison result between the first parameter and the second parameter; and modifying operation of the vehicle in response to the presence of the obstacle in the traversal path of the cargo bed cover.
