The present invention relates to a leveling assembly (10) for a storage and retrieval system (1) for storing a cargo holder (106). The assembly (10) comprises a threaded elongate member (12), a threaded nut (14) for engaging with the threaded elongate member (12), and a ground rail (16) for supporting an upright member (102) of the storage and retrieval system (1). In a first state, the threaded elongate member (12) is engaged with the threaded nut (14) and the threaded nut is disposed in the channel (20) of the ground track (16) and is rotationally fixed relative to the channel (20). The ground track (16) is movable in a vertical direction in response to a rotational force exerted on the threaded elongate member (12). The invention also relates to a method for compensating for irregularities in a ground surface by means of a leveling assembly (10).
