In particular, the invention relates to a method for preparing a polymerization product of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the form of a water redispersible powder (polymer powder) by mixing an aqueous dispersion of the polymerization product of ethylenically unsaturated monomers with one or more desiccant aids and then drying the mixture, characterised in that the desiccant aid comprises > = 60 wt.%, relative to the total weight of the desiccant aid, of one or more salts (organic salts) of an organic compound comprising 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
