A welded structure (19) is provided with: a first member (11) formed from a steel plate or cast steel; a second member (12) disposed adjacent to the first member (11) with a space (S) therebetween, the second member (12) being formed of a steel plate or cast steel; a first welded section (21) that fills the space (S) and joins the first member (11) and the second member (12); and a backing material (31) that is disposed in contact with the first welded section (21) so as to close the first opening of the space (S), includes a transformation region (31F) having a martensitic structure in a region in contact with the first welded section (21), and is made of steel. The volume per unit mass of the steel constituting the backing material (31) at room temperature is larger than the MS point.
