Mechanisms are provided for coverings, such as vertical hinged windows or doors or awnings. The mechanism includes an arm on which a slot is disposed. The groove includes a straight portion and an inclined portion. The arm also includes a bore offset from a centerline of the straight portion and disposed between the inclined portion and an end of the arm. A pin is disposed in the hole and held in place by the cover member and the movable member such that the arm is rotatable about the pin. A rivet pin is disposed in the slot and fixedly connected to the fixing member. When the movable member moves, the arm moves such that the suspended sash is unlocked from the fixed frame of the cover, and the inclined portion engages the rivet pin to rotate the arm to open the cover.
