The invention discloses a hydropower station dam flood control mechanism which comprises a dam body and further comprises a water retaining mechanism which comprises a portal frame arranged on the dam body, a water inlet, a water outlet, a cavity and a first storage groove which are formed in the dam body, a sliding groove formed in the portal frame, a sealing part arranged on the water outlet and a pulling part arranged on the sealing part. The floating part is arranged in the cavity; the locking mechanism comprises a vertical rod arranged on the floating part, a telescopic part arranged on the vertical rod, a reset part arranged on the telescopic part and a limiting part arranged on the dam body; and the unlocking mechanism comprises a groove formed in the pulling part, a rotating part arranged in the cavity, and a lifting part and a guide part which are arranged on the rotating part. Through the arrangement of the water retaining mechanism, the locking mechanism and the unlocking mechanism, the height of the water retaining plate can be controlled through the change of the water level, and locking and unlocking can be conducted.
