The invention relates to a hanging basket capable of moving transversely and a control method thereof. The hanging basket capable of moving transversely comprises a hanging basket assembly, a hanging mechanism, a counterweight assembly, a hanging steel cable assembly and a balance inhaul cable assembly. The hanging basket assembly is hung on the front face of a construction structure body, the number of the hanging mechanisms is two, the hanging mechanisms are arranged at the top of the construction structure body, each hanging mechanism is provided with a counterweight assembly, the hanging steel cable assembly is connected between the two hanging mechanisms and the hanging basket assembly, and the balance inhaul cable assembly is connected between the two hanging mechanisms. The control method comprises the steps that the control system is initialized, basic parameters of the hanging basket assembly are input, a specified operation instruction is input, and the controller conducts data analysis and transmits a next instruction; all the elevators work, and the position of the hanging basket assembly is changed. The hanging basket assembly can move transversely to adapt to more different types of construction working conditions, the working range of the hanging basket assembly is expanded, the erecting sortie is reduced, the working efficiency is improved, and the stability of the hanging mechanism is improved.
