Cement replacement mixture
The invention relates to a volcanic ash mixture comprising 5% to 80% of a magnesium-iron solid solution silicate; from 5% to 80% of MgCOs * X H2O, wherein X = 0 to 10; and 2% to 30% of active silica; and having a free water content of at most 10%, based on the total weight of the mixture. The invention further relates to a method of making a cement slurry with a pozzolan mixture, comprising the steps of: (i) reacting a magnesium-iron solid solution silicate with an acid and adding any additional magnesium-iron solid solution silicate to the reaction product to produce a pozzolan mixture, the volcanic ash mixture comprises 5% to 80% of magnesium-iron solid solution silicate; from 5% to 80% of MgCOs * X H2O, wherein X = 0 to 10; 2% to 30% of active silica; (ii) adding the product of step (i) to a slurry of cementitious material and water, the ratio of cementitious material to the pozzolanic mixture being from 1: 1.5 to 10: 1.
