Method for preparing lightweight aggregate
The invention relates to a method for producing lightweight clay-based aggregates, which are particularly suitable for civil engineering, in particular for road applications and buildings. Therefore, the invention relates first to a method for preparing lightweight aggregates, comprising at least the following steps: a) a step of granulating a clay-based mixture to obtain an aggregate, b) a step of drying the obtained aggregate to obtain a dried aggregate, c) a step of heat treating the dried aggregate, and d) a step of heat treating the dried aggregate. The steps comprise two consecutive sub-steps: i) a first heat treatment sub-step performed in a reducing atmosphere at a temperature T1 of about 900 DEG C to 1200 DEG C, ii) a second heat treatment sub-step performed in an oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature T2 of about 1050 DEG C to 1300 DEG C, and d) a step of cooling the aggregate.
