A rotary resolver (100) for operating a machine, such as an excavator, comprises a support structure (1), a single rotary drum (2) comprising a plurality of teeth (20), and a drive unit for rotating the drum. The support structure comprises a connecting plate (10) defining a connecting plane with respect to the operating machine and comprises a lateral arm on which the rotating drum is rotatably supported. The axis of rotation (X) of the conical drum is inclined with respect to the connection plane such that the generatrix of the rotating drum is substantially parallel to the connection plane.
