A door lock for a household appliance includes a rotatably mounted rotary gripper that moves from an open rotational position to a closed rotational position when a door of the household appliance is closed, and in the closed rotational position holds a striker that relatively approaches the rotary gripper when the door is closed so as to hold the door closed. The door lock comprises a movably arranged, in particular linearly guided locking element, which, when the door is closed, is moved from a standby position, in which the locking element is supported on the rotary gripper, into a locking position, in which the locking element is supported on the rotary gripper, under the action of a spring bias, in the locked position, the locking element prevents the rotary gripper from rotating to the open rotational position. When the door is closed, the locking element is supported on the striker in the locking position. The presence/absence of the striker can also be detected by a locking element which has a blocking function for the rotary gripper when the door is closed. A simple design of the door lock with low component and assembly costs can be achieved.
