A storage system and related method for a petroleum product includes a vapor barrier comprising at least one layer comprising an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene material, the vapor barrier configured to prevent absorption of the petroleum product therethrough. The vapor barrier may be a coated fabric containing an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene material and configured to be fluid-tight against a surface. The vapor barrier is also configured to be incorporated into any such storage system that further includes a floating roof seal, a tank liner seal, and/or a leg shoe seal.
