Embodiments of the present invention provide a door opener (18) for an electrical device of a household appliance. The door opener includes a motor (30) and a pusher (36) drivable by the motor to press-fit with the door of the electrical device. A power transmission mechanism (32) is arranged between the electric motor and the pusher, and the power transmission mechanism can ensure the variable effective speed of the pusher under the same rotation frequency of the electric motor. For this purpose, certain embodiments provide a multi-stage rack and pinion formed of a ring gear (42) and a rack (38) that can transmit the driving force of the motor to the pusher through respective pairs of gears that can alternately mesh with each other.
