The invention discloses an artificial turf and a preparation method thereof. The artificial turf sequentially comprises artificial grass yarns, a base cloth layer and a bottom cloth layer from top to bottom, wherein the bottom layer is a glue composite grid structure layer; the artificial grass filaments are tufted on the base cloth layer, the roots of the artificial grass filaments penetrate through the bottom of the base cloth layer to form root grass filaments, and the root grass filaments are fused, cooled and shaped to obtain a root grass filament fused layer; the base cloth layer and the bottom layer are bonded through a hot melt adhesive bonding material or the base cloth layer and the bottom layer are directly thermally bonded through a root grass filament melting layer. The artificial lawn provided by the invention has the effects of high water permeability, stable lawn size and the like, a natural lawn and the artificial lawn can coexist, and the application requirements of the market are met.
