Groove measuring system
A work machine (100) is disclosed that includes a trench measurement system for measuring a trench depth (304) and a trench angle (600) during a trench digging operation. The work machine (100) includes a rangefinder system (118) mounted on a boom (114) and includes a plurality of rangefinders (200, 202), each rangefinder (200, 202) including a beam arrangement (204) configured to determine a distance from a plurality of rays (208, 210) irradiated from the beam arrangement (204) to a trench bottom surface (302). The on-board controller (406) calculates the trench depth (304) based on the data received by the rangefinder system (118), the sensor assembly (402), the boom position on the work mechanism (110), and attributes of the work machine (100). A method of measuring a trench depth (304) and a trench angle (600) using a range finder (200, 202) mounted on a boom (114) of a work machine (100) is also disclosed.
