The invention discloses a rope type rotating weir and a control method thereof, and the rope type rotating weir comprises a weir plate which is rotatably arranged in a water passing channel and divides the water passing channel into an upstream and a downstream; a fixed pulley; a deflecting pulley; one end of the traction rope is connected with the weir plate, and the other end sequentially bypasses the fixed pulley and the steering pulley to be connected with the driving device; and the driving device is used for winding and unwinding the traction rope, so that the traction rope can drive the weir plate to rotate. In the process of increasing the opening degree of the weir plate, the gravity of the weir plate is beneficial to continuous increase of the opening degree. And in the process of reducing the opening of the weir plate, the opening can be continuously reduced under the action of water pressure. Therefore, based on the rope type rotating weir, the opening degree of the weir plate can be controlled by controlling the winding and unwinding amount of the traction rope, and the precision reliability and controllability are better. And no matter the opening degree is increased or decreased, the pressure or water pressure of the weir plate is beneficial to rotation of the weir plate, and the driving device is more labor-saving, so that the advantage of low energy consumption is achieved.
