The invention belongs to the technical field of dampers, and discloses a symmetrical high-performance viscoelastic damper which comprises two supporting plates, through holes are formed in the supporting plates, and the two supporting plates are connected through a pre-tightening connecting piece; a connecting plate is arranged between the two supporting plates, a plurality of groups of viscoelastic materials are arranged between the connecting plate and the supporting plates, the loss factor of the viscoelastic materials is not less than 0.2, the viscoelastic materials are one of rubber or polyurethane, and the connecting plate and the viscoelastic materials are distributed in a symmetrical structure. According to the invention, a symmetric structure design and a high-performance viscoelastic material (the loss factor is greater than or equal to 0.2) are adopted, so that the energy-dissipating capacity of the damper is greatly enhanced and is more than two times that of a common viscoelastic damper, which means that the damper can absorb and dissipate more energy under the same vibration or impact condition, and the energy-dissipating capacity of the damper is greatly improved. Therefore, vibration and displacement of the structure are effectively reduced.
