A mechanical rotating device located at the base of a gravity waste chute is effective to separate homogeneous and/or heterogeneous waste into a waste container. The apparatus includes a mechanical rotary steering mechanism that utilizes an electromechanical rotary element secured to a base for rotating and steering homogeneous and/or heterogeneous waste into designated respective waste containers.
