The invention discloses a clustered mullite fiber attached with a surface coating and a preparation method of the surface coating of the clustered mullite fiber, and the preparation method comprises the following steps: preparing first coating slurry which comprises mullite sol; preparing second coating slurry, wherein the second coating slurry comprises a high-molecular polymer and silica sol; preparing third coating slurry, wherein the third coating slurry comprises an antistatic agent and a softener; the preparation method comprises the following steps: dipping a fiber bundle in first coating slurry and drying for the first time, then dipping in second coating slurry and drying for the second time, and then dipping in third coating slurry and drying for the third time to obtain clustered mullite fiber and a surface coating attached to the surface of the mullite fiber; according to the invention, the coating is attached to the surface of the mullite fiber, damage repair of the surface of the mullite fiber is realized, the bundled mullite fiber bundle does not fluff in the use process, and organic components in the coating are easy to remove at 300-600 DEG C before use.
