To provide a honeycomb structure having an improved joint reliability with an electrode part.SOLUTION: A honeycomb structure comprises a columnar honeycomb structural part having an outer side wall and barriers provided inside the outer side wall to partition a plurality of cells forming channels from one bottom face to another bottom face, and at least one electrode part on the external surface of the outer side wall of the columnar honeycomb structural part. The columnar honeycomb structural part is made of ceramic containing one or both of Si and SiC. The electrode part contains one or both of a metal and a metallic compound in addition to an oxide. The volume ratio of the oxide in the inner peripheral side of the electrode part is higher than the volume ratio of the oxide in the outer peripheral side of the electrode part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
