What is proposed is a device for temporarily storing and dispensing water, such as air humidity or water from precipitation. It comprises on the one hand a compressible storage material that is suitable for the reversible absorption of water, and on the other hand a carrier structure in which the storage material is embedded. The invention provides that the carrier structure is formed from a two-way shape memory polymer which can be reversibly switched back and forth between - a first shape in which the carrier structure accommodates the storage material in an essentially pressure-free manner, and - a second shape in which the carrier structure compresses the storage material in order to squeeze out of the storage material (2) water absorbed thereon. To that end, the two-way shape memory polymer has - a first switching temperature, at which it is transferred from its first shape to the second shape, and - a second switching temperature, below the first switching temperature, at which it is transferred from its second shape to the first shape.
