Tower comprises an upper tower section (46) forming at least one sixth of the total tower. The cross-section of the lower tower section (41) below a transition region is larger than the cross-section of the upper tower section. The transition region is structured so that the cross-section of the lower tower section is adjusted to the cross-section of the upper tower section to optimize power flux. An independent claim is also included for a modular tower system for a wind power station comprising tubular tower sections. Preferred Features: The vertical extension of the transition region is half of the diameter of the upper tower section in the transition region or is the same. The transition region tapers upward from the cross-section of the lower tower section to the cross-section of the upper tower section. The transition region is formed by a transition piece (50).
