A WC cistern with a lid has a threaded hole through the lid to secure the release mechanism. The discharge valve (2) in the bottom of the cistern is connected to the release control by one or two struts (4a, 4b) whose length is selected to match the depth of the cistern. The struts can be flat metal strips with bends to provide a spring effect. The fitting secures the lid onto the cistern.
