Setting and hardening accelerator for hydraulic binders comprises an ester of a polyhydric alcohol with phosphoric or phosphorous acid or a C2-C20 carboxylic acid. Independent claims are also included for: (1) additive for hydraulic binder systems, comprising an accelerator as above and a superplasticizer; (2) accelerating the setting and hardening of hydraulic binders and mortars and concretes prepared from them by adding an accelerator or additive as above in an amount of 0.001-10 wt.%.
