The device has a lock cylinder, and a scanning member arranged in a supplementary core hole that extends transverse to core pin holes. The scanning member scans a scanning point (7) on a broad side of a key (1). The scanning point is arranged close to a peripheral edge (11) of a coding notch (6b), such that deepening of the notch leads to disappearance of the sensing point. The supplementary core hole is arranged between two core holes, and the scanning member has a tip for scanning the scanning point lying between two immediately adjacent coding notches.
