The closing device has a pivoting wing (13) that is disposed on one hinge (11) at a hinge side of the closing device, where the hinge is pivotally mounted on a frame (10). A locking device locks the pivoting wing in a locked position with the frame, where the pivoting wing is movable in an unlocked position, in which the pivot wing is pivotable around a pivot axis (L1) relative to the frame. A drive device is adapted to adjust the locking device acting on the one locking element on the hinge side. The locking element is made of a lever pivotable by an articulation point. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a closing device for a building opening.
